Important Instructions for IV Anesthesia

If you wish to be sedated while you have any oral surgery procedure, it is absolutely essential that you follow these instructions.

  1. Starting at least 12 hours before your appointment you should restrict your diet to easily digested foods, clear fluids, & NO ALCOHOL.
  2. NOTHING TO EAT OR DRINK FOR 8 HOURS PRIOR to your appointment, INCLUDING GUM, CANDY, OR WATER unless otherwise instructed.
  3. A responsible adult who can help you to the pharmacy to pick up your prescriptions & get home safely MUST accompany you & remain in close vicinity to the office during your procedure.
  4. You CAN NOT operate a motor vehicle or any kind of machinery for 24 hours after having general anesthesia.
  5. The doctor must be informed of the use of any recreational drugs (i.e. cocaine/marijuana) within the 48 hours prior to surgery.
  6. Please wear loose comfortable clothing and a short-sleeved shirt. Long hair should be pulled back.
  7. Please do not wear contact lenses, nail polish, jewelry, or nylons.

THESE RULES ARE VITALLY IMPORTANT. YOUR COOPERATION IS ESSENTIAL. IF YOU DO NOT COMPLY WITH THESE RULES THERE IS A CHANCE THAT WE MAY NEED TO RESCHEDULE YOUR SURGERY TO ANOTHER DATE.
