Exposure of an Impacted Tooth

Post-Operative Instructions for Exposure of an Impacted Tooth

  • Do Not Disturb the Wound: Avoid touching or disturbing the wound area.
  • Surgical Packing: If surgical packing was placed, leave it in place. It helps keep the tooth exposed.
  • Bleeding: Some bleeding or redness in saliva is normal for 24 hours. If excessive bleeding occurs, contact the office.
  • Swelling: Swelling is common and can be reduced with ice packs applied to the face for 20 minutes on and 20 minutes off during the first 24 hours.
  • Pain Management: Take prescribed pain medication as directed. Over-the-counter pain relievers can also be used if needed.
  • Oral Hygiene: Keep your mouth clean by gently rinsing with a saltwater solution after meals, starting 24 hours after surgery. Avoid vigorous rinsing.
  • Diet: Eat soft foods and avoid chewing on the side of the surgical site. Stay hydrated but avoid using straws.
  • Activity: Rest and avoid strenuous activities for a few days following surgery.
  • Follow-Up: Attend all scheduled follow-up appointments to monitor healing.

f you experience severe pain, excessive bleeding, or any unusual symptoms, contact our office immediately.
